PKMS READING CHALLENGE:  All documents are posted below as well as within the "resource section" on the left of this page.  Reading is priority #1.  All adolescents must feel comfortable with text and language.  We continue to encourage and support this process in and out of school. Below are documents that relate to a Reading Challenge, which begins November 1st and ends March 1st.  There are various prizes and rewards with respect to levels.  Once a student completes a book, he/she must submit a Book Response Form (fiction or non-fiction depending on book to the assigned location). These locations are posted and have been communicated.  They are the main office, library, and/or LEAP office).

Peekskill Middle School strives to promote the idea that education is an ongoing process, which create not only personal growth, but professional/life-long success. The mission of our school and district alike is to educate students in a caring and inspiring environment; characterized by a spirit of excellence, safety, and high expectations amongst all stakeholders within. We recognize the developmental needs of our students and individualize our approaches both in and out of the classroom.

Our school of approximately 600 students is divided into six houses. Each grade level (6th - 8th) is divided into two teams. The 21st century building provides separate wings for each team. This allows teachers and students to create unique and positive relationships that focus on their academic, social, and emotional needs. A guidance counselor is assigned to each grade level and the classrooms are directly across from each other, which supports the team approach and collaborative efforts. This model provides significant support to the teaching/learning process as your child moves through his/her middle school years.

Another component to the Middle School is LEAP (Learning Enrichment Activities Program), which extends our students day and provides not only academic support, but an opportunity to explore and enrich the curriculum in a project-based type of environment. The Middle School also offers a variety of after-school clubs, athletics, and programs that can be accessed through our website. In addition to teacher web-pages, each child is assigned a secure e-mail that is utilized for staff/student communication. This allows for a secure conversation relative to the learning process. It also provides an opportunity for students to inquire or share information with their teachers and/or send school-related reminders.

Peekskill Middle School is a wonderful place to teach and learn. Making good choices for yourself and each other has become a school motto. We are proud everyday by the fantastic decisions and accomplishments our school, staff, and students alike continue to make. Please feel free to contact us at anytime. Our website is updated weekly and our "Monday Morning Reflections" newsletter provides up to date information/events/programs.

Thank you for what you do for our school and students alike. Have a great school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. David Fine
